January 2016 saw an 11 year old record for new car registrations, as the Fiesta dominated these charts again. 168,678 new cars were sold in the UK in the past month, the highest total since January 2005 and a 2.9% increase on the same month in 2015.
The Fiesta has been with us for nearly 40 years and over 4,000,000 have been sold since its release. Almost 8500 Fiestas were registered in January of this year, in addition to the 133,434 units sold in 2015, making it the best selling car of the year. 2015 saw a successful year for Ford all round, with the Focus coming in 3rd with 83,816 registrations.
Diesel remained the fuel of choice, with 82,311 vehicles sold, closely followed by petrol with 81,292. Hybrids and Electric vehicle registrations were up 32.1% from the same month last year and they know take a 3.6% of the total market share.
