The 1.0 EcoBoost engine once again won at the 2016 International Engine of the Year awards, with its fifth consecutive win in the sub 1.0 category. Competiton included Volkswagen’s 999cc engine, plus engines by BMW, General Motors, Fiat / Chrysler, Renault / Nissan. The powerful 998cc engine is available for a range of Ford vehicles, including the Ford Fiesta, B-Max, C-Max, EcoSport, Focus, Mondeo and Tourneo Connect. The engine is available in a range of power output, all the way up to the 140ps EcoBoost engine found in the Fiesta Zetec S. There’seven a 180ps version which can be found in the Fiesta R2 rally car! L’Automobile Magazine’s Christophe Congrega said: “With high torque at the very low end, this high-tech three-cylinder turbo provides the driving performance of a small turbo diesel, but without any of the noise or vibration.”
Ford also enjoyed a well deserved 3rd place in the 2.0 to 2.5 litre category with the 2.3 litre EcoBoost engine found in the Focus RS, losing out to Audi and Porsche.
EcoBoost technology is even being developed for use in diesel engines, with the new range of EcoBlue engines available in the Transit and Transit Custom.
