When it was announced earlier in the year that the UK would be exiting the EU, it was expected new car sales will drop significantly, but as the stats the show, the complete opposite is happening. 1.68 million cars were registered in the opening 8 months of 2016, up 2.8% from the same point in 2015 with over 81,600 new cars registered in the month of August alone; a 3.3% rise on the same month last year.
The Ford Fiesta remains the UK’s best seller, with almost 76,500 registered in 2016, over 25,000 more than it’s closest competitor the Vauxhall Corsa, and a further 4,000 to the Ford Focus. The stats show that an average of 314 Fiestas are being sold every single day. Alternative fuel vehicles are still selling at the high rate they have been, with over 54,000 taken delivery from January, almost a third more than last year. Diesel has dropped by 0.2% with petrol rising by 5.3%.
