Spy shots have emerged of Alfa Romeo’s SUV being tested, the Stelvio, set to rival the Macan, F-Pace, Audi Q5, BMW X3 and Mercedes-Benz GLC-Class.
This will be Alfa’s first crossover and will be expected to be a mid-sized model and have the Stelvio badge named after the Stelvio Pass in northern Italy.
Alfa Romeo chief engineer Philippe Krief says “The SUV will be the sportiest in its class, every car has to be like this.”
The Quadrifoglio version will be expected to first be shown at the LA Motor Show in November 2016.
The Stelvio will be powered by the same engine as the new Giulia, the Ferrari-developed 2.9-litre twin-turbo V6 engine. The rest of the range is expected to mirror the Giulia’s range of 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol and diesel engines all paired with the same eight-speed automatic transmission.
