The Vauxhall Grandland X is a new model to market, following its predecessor the Crossland X, however the Grandland X is bigger competing more with the likes of the Nissan Qashqai.
A quarter of Europe’s new car buyers now opt for more SUV’s. The Grandland X is not yet avaliable in 4WD, but you can forgive that as its new grip control system enhances traction control, making the notion of no 4WD forgivable.
Engines are currently available in a 1.2 litre turbo-charged petrol or a 1.6 litre diesel. The 1.2 litre engine is a real competitor, boasting a very respectable 128hp which feels eager and ready. Both engines offer a 6-speed manual gear box as standard or a 6-speed automatic is available as an option too.
The Grandland X has a forgiving suspension set up, making a comfortable ride, which doesn’t lean to heavily on bends giving you confidence in the drive.
The Grandland X is logically laid out its controls and made essentials more accessible and rear parking sensors are standard across the range.
If you opt for top of the range, it offers a 360 degrees view of around the car, which is fantastic when parking.
Most models are equipped with an 8′ SATNAV, whilst all options offer a 7′ Infotainment system with Bluetooth streaming, Apple and Android play. Following that every model has Vauxhall Onstar with online connectivity, Wifi hotspot and if you opt for NAV, a connection to a call centre who will download a new requested route to your Nav.
The name Grandland X says it all, head and leg room is more than enough to accommodate taller adult and is wide enough to ensure your own space. Boot space is spacious enough to fit most things in with ease, even a family of suitcases when and can fit longer items in with its quick release rear folding seats.
Running costs are competitive, especially the diesel engine offering 70mpg. Even standard equipment is packed out; Alloy wheels, Rear parking sensors, Dual-zone climate control, Cruise controls and Automatic headlights and wipers.
The Grandland X was also given a 5 star safety rating by the Euro NCAP crash test agency.
