The latest addition to the all-new Insignia range is the all-wheel drive Insignia Country Tourer.
The Country Tourer is more spacious and a lot lighter than previous Insignia models, thanks to the new architecture and is also fitted with many new innovative technologies. It goes on sale with a 172hp 2.0 Turbo Diesel engine as a 6 gear manual or 8 speed automatic, later releasing a more beefy 213hp Bi-Turbo Diesel engine. The all-wheel drive system is based on the same torque-vectoring technology which is used on the Range Rover Evoque and Ford Focus RS.
The Country Tourer’s rear axle contains electronically controlled, multi-plate clutches, allowing the ability to direct torque more to one side, for example; more torque can be sent to the outer rear wheel when cornering sharper turn-ins and steering response. Riding 25mm higher than the regular Sports Tourer Estate, it allows the car to tackle more rugged terrain, extra cladding and skin plates help to protect against bumps and scrapes. It is also larger than the older model with 92mm-longer wheelbase, a roof-rail carrying capacity of 100kg and boot space has increase from 135ltrs to a massive 1665ltrs!
The Country Tourer’s Flexride chassis includes adaptive damping and steering can be set to standard, sport or tour mode; each mode affects shift-points on the automatic gearbox. Interior equipment includes Vauxhall OnStar with 2 new features: Personal assistant to help drivers make hotel bookings and a service to locate parking spaces. Prices are to start from £25,635
