Honda are planning on introducing a successor to the Honda S2000 roadster in 2018!
The S2000 replacement is dubbed the ‘Baby NSX’ and was said to feature a mid-mounted version of the Civic Type-R’s 2.0 litre turbocharged four cylinder engine. But due to the pressure to adhere the stringent emission regulations Honda have been forced to down size the engine.
They are creating a hybrid replacement for the S2000 roadster, the replacement will feature a 1.5 litre turbo with a total power of 300-bhp and F1 tech, and will be developed in conjunction with McLaren and Honda’s F1 programme.
There is a lot of competition when it comes to mid-size sport cars, with the rivals such as Porsche Cayman, Audi TT, BMW Z4 and the Alfa Romeo 4C will all be targets when the S2000 successor appears in our mist in a few years.
As you can see with the concept image above, they have got the inspiration for the look of the S2000 replacement from their flagship NSX.
However the original S2000 was only available as a roadster but Honda are set to change the direction and the successor will only be available as a coupe.
They are looking at boosting the new S2000 in the U.S, Europe and other markets like Australia.
Keep and eye out!
