Over the past years, the UK’s Pick Up Truck market has rapidly expanded, with great help from the Ford Ranger amongst others. The new Ranger arrives in the early stages of 2016, with advanced technological and safety features as well as updated styling, both on the inside and out.
The interior of the pick up has been made to look more car like, say Ford. The dashboard is similar to other Ford models, an 8″ touch scene sits at the centre of the dash, allowing the buttons and dials to be removed to give the console a smart and uncluttered look. SYNC2 will be available, allowing the driver to access on phone apps such as Spotify and Garmin. Advanced voice control will make the system simple and efficient to use. From the outside, the Ranger has a noticeable new grill, which allows the vehicle to sit within the Ford family with ease. New headlights have replaced the curved ones on the existing Pick Up. Safety features that have been added to the Ranger include lane keep assist, front and rear park assist and hill-descent control; a system that keeps a steady pace and the driver in complete control when tackling steep hills.
The new Ranger is 18% more fuel efficient than the current model, the base model 128bhp 2.2 litre engine can cut fuel use by 22%. A 158bhp 2.2 and 198 3.2litre diesel engines will also be available as a stop/start as standard. New electric power steering and tweaked suspension help cut fuel costs and improve the ride of the new model. The previous Ranger had a switchable 4 wheel drive system, low range gearbox and locking rear differential. The same features will be including in the update. The mix of performance features allow the truck to tow a load of 3500kg and wade through 800mm of water.
The Ford Ranger sold 40% more units that the year before, and when the new versions goes on sale, the sales are set to raise again. The once ‘American’ vehicle is becoming more and more a global car and expect the Ford Ranger to become a familiar sight on UK roads very soon.
