We all remember taking our driving test, or tests if you had more than one go. If it wasn’t nerve racking enough, it’s probably about to get even worse for those who are about to sit their upcoming examination. The test is being altered to include more ‘real life’ manoeuvers including reversing in and out of a parking bay, and the pupil could also be asked how to use a sat nav. The amount of alone driving time will also be doubled to 20 minutes. Reversing around a corner and the 3 point turn are set to be dropped.
It currently stands at 1 quarter of all fatal road accidents involve a 15-19 year old, so the DVSA hope these new obstacles will cut the number accidents and fatalities. The DVSA has all ready hinted at new test ideas, including a deposit system, where the driver would be refunded when passing and some compulsory motorway driving. None of these ideas have been confirmed yet, so it’s unknown weather new drivers will have to face them yet.
