Watch A Volvo FH16 Tow 750 Tons

While most semi-trucks in the U.S. haul around 40 tons, the new Volvo FH16 heavy duty truck features a new I-Shift transmission with crawler gears capable of towing up to 325 tons. In this new video, Volvo asks Swedish strongman champion Magnus Samuelsson to attempt to tow 750 tons (1,500,000 pounds) with a heavy-duty Volvo FH16 semi-truck.

Trucking journalist Brian Weatherley joins Samuelsson in the FH16 truck, where they attempt to tow the heavy load at Gothenburg Roro Terminal in Sweden. The team hitches 20 trailers behind the four-axle tractor. Each trailer is carrying two full-size shipping containers. Wet weather compounds the challenge.

On their first attempt, the Volvo truck pulls the front axle off the ground. The team then checks every trailer to make sure there is enough pressure in the air braking system. Without enough pressure, the brakes will go into fail-safe mode and lock. By the time the air brakes are fully charged, the weather turns foul as snow causes traction issues.

Once all the issues are resolved, Samuelsson finally attempts to tow the 750-ton load 100 meters (328 feet) to the finish line.

Check out the video here to see if the world’s strongest man can tow the sizable load with just one Volvo FH16 heavy-duty truck.
