The latest update to the current third generation Ford Focus is set to go on sale in 2018, and the first images have been previewed by AutoExpress. Engineered as part of the blue oval’s ‘One Ford’ program, the car will feature the iconic round grille that takes centre stage at the front of the car, as it does through the whole Ford range. Under the bonnet, the new car will feature the 1.0 EcoBoost units with expected power outputs of 99bhp, 123bhp and 138bhp. If the engines are successful, a lower entry-level non turbo-charged 84bhp unit could be introduced. In terms of diesel, the standard 1.5 and 2.0 engines will be available.
The car is likely to remain quite similar to the current model, but with a slightly increased wheelbase. The power-steering set-up, front suspension geometry and rear suspension tweaks will be altered to give the Focus advanced handling to lift the car above it’s VW Golf and Vauxhall Astra rivals. The Focus will follow the spec line up of the all-new Fiesta, with an ST-Line and Vignale being available.
