SEMA – Mazda Update

Over the past few weeks, Mazda have teased and tugged at the heartstrings of Mazda Loving automotive Enthusiasts and Automotive Design lovers alike. With the Debut of the new Rotary concept – RX-Vision, and the Koeru CX-9 Concept, both being unveiled in Japan, the homeland of Mazda, at the Tokyo Auto Show!

We now turn to Las Vegas And SEMA (probably the biggest Car show in the world) where Mazda planned to make yet another debut to a design concept many have whispered about and wished for. The New Mx-5 with a couple of twists!

I introduce the Speedster and the Spyder!

A clear hark back to the lightweight sports cars of the 1950’s. The Speedster concept is about as basic as modern cars can reasonably get, with the stripped back vintage design for a ‘unadulterated, wind-in-the-hair driving experience’. The windscreen and roof are both ditched for a simple wind deflector. While carbon-fibre doors and a new rear deck design also feature.

Super-light Racing alloys, carbon fibre seats and a re-trimmed alcantara cabin help reduce the unsprung weight to just 943Kg, 113Kg less the standard UK spec car. It also gets a central location exhaust system and adjustable coil-over suspension.

The Spyder concept is slightly different. Mazda branding it as a more sophisticated design of the classic vintage roadster. the ‘Bikini style roof’ combines with the Spinneybeck natural leather and specially formulated Mercury silver paint to help it stand out.

Lightweight Yokohama Alloys, a body tonneau cover and carbon fibre aero kit also feature on the new Spyder Concept.

There is only one slight drawback to this…

Being a Design Concept, they could well be just a one off, We certainly hope that’s not the case! We think these look awesome!!
