Vauxhall have announced that the new Astra Sports Tourer will be making its debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show together with its five door hatchback sibling.
The new generation Astra Sports Tourer shares the same dimensions as the outgoing model – however a reworked interior means there is more space for the driver and passengers. Drivers will enjoy an additional 26mm of headroom while passengers in the rear have 28mm, meaning more space and comfort.
For the first time in Vauxhall’s history, the tailgate can also be opened without a touch or remote control. A small kicking motion under the rear bumper is enough to open the tailgate, great for when your hands are full. The new system is clever enough to detect any obstructions, which will then stop the mechanism in case of an emergency.
Powertrains will be shared with the hatchback model. The new engine portfolio provides options available ranging from 100PS to 200PS. The new petrol ECOTEC Direct Injection Turbo engines available in 1.4 and 1.6 variants will be a popular choice, alongside the recently launched 1.6 CDTi Whisper Diesel.
Depending on the model and trim level, the new Astra weighs up to 200kg lighter than its predecessor with a further 50kg of weight loss coming from new chassis design and materials.
OnStar will also be debuting in the new Astra Sports Tourer. The award winning connectivity technology features high speed 4G LTE, emergency response notification and stolen vehicle recovery alert. Alongside the standard Astra, the new Sports Tourer will be one of the first vehicles from a volume franchise to include Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, offering new ways to connect with smartphones through the IntelliLink infotainment system.
